It has been hot hot hot, so we hit the sprinkers first thing in the morning.

Homeward bound! We have studied airports and this little guy was loving being at one.

68 - A walk in Chicago

67 - A trip to the Lincoln Park Zoo

We used to live very near the Lincoln Park Zoo and walked by on a regular basis but never went. We always had our dogs with us and I find zoos to be a little bit depressing. But my kids love animals and it is amazing to them.

66 - Last tractor ride of the summer

The morning we left the farm Jaime sneaked out the door with his papa for a last tractor ride instead of getting dressed to go.

65 - So much fun

They had such a blast at the Fourth of July carnival.

64 - My baby is three

63 - Evening walk

62 - Littlest monkey

61 - Dad's here

Dad's here! Dan arrived to spend the next week on vacation and the kids' gave him a tour. (as if he had never been to the farm.)

60 - Rinse, repeat

Swimming in the morning, after nap, before dinner...

59 - Flower shop

We road tripped to Iowa City and visited my sister's flower shop.

58 - The milk house

My parents' farm is well over 100 years old so there are buildings like the milk house which carry a name that is no longer related to today and long abandoned attempts at building a tree house.

57 - Nap time

My little girl would take the best afternoon naps while at the farm. I loved the cuddles.

56 - While the pizza bakes

A distinct advantage to a house while raising kids is the ability to just run outside for a bit to play. I made a pizza for dinner and while it was in the oven we ran outside to play a bit. They started scooping water at the baby pool and asked if they could get in. Once Jaime got the okay to get wet he had such a blast. Ellie is always a bit more cautious with water play but once she saw him splashing so freely she got into it too.

55 - Early morning walks

We were up with the sun. Jaime started to sleep in but Ellie was still walking up very early so we would head out for a little walk, just us girls in our flip flops and with bananas for snacking.

54 - Farm skyline

Pretty sure I never fully appreciated the skyline and beauty of farm land as much as I do now.

53 - Sunsets

It can be difficult to balance photography work time with family time anytime but especially during vacations. And even more so when traveling by myself with two little munchkins. There were some amazing sunsets that happened during our trip - when the kids were totally done (Jaime didn't nap at all so would crash pretty hard). I watched a couple from the bathroom window while the kids played in the bath and wish so hard that Dan was there at that moment! My parents were trying to finish up chores and work for the night so I wasn't going to ask them to take over and I thought that once Dan arrived I would get to do some evening photo work... but well, then some forest fires a bazillion miles away changed the sky and took away that gorgeous evening light that you get when there are no buildings to block. Next time.

52 - Fishing

We went fishing with my family. There was lots of building up, going to pick up supplies, the picnic, getting the tackle box packed. I had one very excited little boy. I hope that this will be one of his early childhood memories that sticks as he just loved everything about it.

51 - Playing in puddles

The morning rain cleared up so we headed out to find worms and play in puddles. Don't worry, she isn't playing in the road that is the lane in the back of my parent's farm. She had such a blast picking flowers (dandelions) and splashing and stomping around freely.
